WAHA is a non-partisan group committed to acting locally and advocating at the regional, state and federal levels for sound healthcare policies. Our goal is to both educate and advise elected officials on health policy concerns
and serve as a community based resource on the effects of specific legislative proposals
through:
- legislative briefings
- development of comprehensive policy papers
- provision of
informational materials
- responsiveness to questions that arise in the legislative process
- where appropriate, public testimony
In addition WAHA seeks to improve public
understanding and awareness of critical health policy issues through the drafting of white papers,
and community forums and other educational activities with key organizations and
community groups.

2007 Community Healthcare Forum: Changing Healthcare in Whatcom County - We Can do Better
WAHA joined with the St. Luke’s Foundation to convene the “Changing Healthcare in Whatcom County” Community Forum on June 11, 2007. This event brought together more than 200 people from a wide cross section of our community to more fully understand the challenges facing the American health care delivery system, and discuss opportunities for local action. Former Oregon Governor, John Kitzhaber, physician and healthcare activist provided the keynote address.
