Insurance Counseling
WAHA’s Access Counselors offer the following free services to help individuals, families, business owners, and patient advocates navigate the healthcare system:
- Easy-to-understand and impartial information to help get, use, and keep health insurance
- Free insurance counseling and help completing paperwork from our well-trained volunteers and experienced staff
- Assistance with enrollment in Medicaid, Children’s Health Insurance Plan (CHIP), Basic Health and other insurance programs

Access Programs

School Outreach Project
WAHA is partnering with Whatcom County School Districts to give families easy to access help understanding their health insurance options and finding a primary care provider, or "medical home," for their children.
Small Business Health Insurance Connection
This program is being developed to provide a single contact point for health insurance-related issues for small business owners and their employees.
Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA) HelpLine
WAHA is home to the Whatcom SHIBA HelpLine, the local office of the statewide network of trained volunteers who educate, assist and advocate for consumers about their rights and options regarding health insurance and health care access.
Whatcom Project Access
In collaboration with the Whatcom County Medical Society, Whatcom Project Access (WPA) helps eligible low-income, uninsured patients access donated specialty care. Through WPA, local specialists generously donate their time and resources to provide care for these eligible patients.
